Brewery Shades, 12 &13 Black Lion Street, Brighton

Much of this street has been redeveloped over time; and now the Black Lion exists at 14 Black Lion Street. (There was a Black Lion at 37 Black Lion Street according to the 1854 directory listing). The brewery has always been next door to the Cricketers through the census - although #14 has often been vacant, and I believe this is is probably where the Black Lion now exists, it was rebuilt in the 1970's. **

In these two photos of the Brewery Shades, Black Lion Street, Brighton. The first is Black Lion street c1900. At the extreme right is the edge of The Cricketers, next to it is the corner of the brewery that was rebuilt in 1974 as the Black Lion. At the far end of the brewery building is The Brewery Shades (the building with the two gables). The second is from the mid 1960s. The Framlins Brewery is to the right of the pub and was demolished circa 1970. *
