My Fifth Great Grandfather John Bridgman owned the Inn in 1823. He was born
circa 1750 and died in 1823. He was a tallow chandler as were his two
brothers Samuel and William Bridgman. The following is a transcript from his
will " John Bridgman of Mill Yard Goodmans Fields in the Parish of Saint
Mary White Chapel, in the County of Middlesex Gentleman :
"I give devise and bequeath unto my son Isaac Bridgeman of the Forest of
Deane near Gloucester lately one Mossuage and then a public house and called
or known by the name or sign of The Admiral Keppel To hold the same with his
appurtenances unto my said son Isaac Bridgman his heirs and assigns forever.
Together with all fixtures and Brewing utensils therein." **+

According to the 1871 census, my g.g. grandfather Henry Hall was a licensed
victualler at the Jolly Butchers
pub in Stoke Newington High Street, Hackney. Henry Hall died in 1879 and at
the time of his death, he was the licensed victualler at the Admiral Keppel
in Hoxton, Shoreditch. On the 1881 census, Henry Hall's son, (also named
Henry) was the licensed victualler at the Admiral Keppel. My g.g.
grandfather Henry Hall had a son named Richard Hall who was the licensed
victualler at the Jolly Butchers in 1883. My g.g. grandfather Henry Hall was
married twice. After Henry's death, his second wife Beatrice remarried
Joshua Evans. Joshua was the licensed victualler of the Cricketers Arms at
Newington Butts in 1891. ***

A will dated 24 September 1868 proved at the Principal Registry October
1881.
9 January. Administration of the Personal Estate of Henry Hall late of the
"Admiral Keppel", 232 Hoxton High Street in the County of Middlesex.
Licensed Victualler who died 22 December 1879 at 12 Wilmer Gardens, Hoxton
in the said County was granted at the Principal registry to Henry Hall of
Bromley House, Gunnersbury Lane, Acton in the said County Cowkeeper the son
and one of the next of kin. ***

In the 1881 census, my ancestors, Henry, Frederick and Richard Hall were at
the Admiral Keppel Pub in Shoreditch Hoxton. Henry Hall died in 1890 and
according to the National Probate Calendar, he was a Licensed Victualler at
the Askew Arms,
Uxbridge Road, Hammersmith at the time of his death. His brother Frederick
Hall was a Licensed Victualler at "The
Cock" Tavern on Holloway Road. in 1890. I know these are my ancestors
because the names of the children and widow, Emma Hall, are the same names
that were listed on the 1881 and 1891 census'. **

My Aunt Lilian Rose Croll was licensee to both the Admiral Keppel, 232
Hoxton Street, Shoreditch and the Kings Arms, 295 Hoxton Street, Shoreditch
in the mid 1900s. She also had another pub which I believe
was The Queen Victoria. There is a photo taken outside the
Kings Arms of all the male customers who
appear to be going off on a Pub Outing. *
