In the 1911 census Harry Albert's brother Joseph PLOWMAN (1884-1916) is at The Broad Face, with his wife and new born child. He is described as a Painter for the brewery, but given that there is no one else at The Broad Face, he is probably the publican too. He enlists in the army and dies at the battle of the Somme in 1916, another brother Ernest PLOWMAN dies on the Somme a year later in 1917. *
