Joseph PLOWMAN's older brother William PLOWMAN (1804-1851) was a coal merchant in 1841 Census but by 1848 (Kelly's Trade directory) he is a publican at the Mitre on Stert Street. After William's death his wife Hannah (nee MITCHELL) continues with the business which is described in Billings trade directory of 1854 as beer retailer and coal dealer in Stert Street. Hannah dies in 1854. *
