My Great Grandfather, Richard Whale, ran the Wheatsheaf in Shaw, Newbury.
In one census it is called Eyles Buildings, Wheatsheaf Lane. Today it is 93,
Shaw Road, Shaw, Newbury. It is on the corner of Shaw Road and Wheatsheaf
Lane. The building is still there but is now a private house. *

Richard Whale is shown as the Publican or Beer House Keeper in the census
records of 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and probably remained so until his death
at the age of 90 in 1899. That indicates that he was the publican of the
Wheatsheaf for around 50 years! *
