Royal Oak, 3 Milton Road, Wokingham, Berkshire

At Nonsuch Lane in 1861 and before. It appears that Nonsuch lane was renamed Milton Road between 1861 and 1863. The house number for this pub is not often given, but it is at 3 Milton Road in 1911, 1915, 1920 & 1924, and at 5 Milton Road in 1891, 1893 & 1901; Now a private residence . The Royal Oak was round the corner from the old Police Station. It is where this grass area and turning circle are now. It closed in the mid-20's and was demolished some years later. * The photograph of the Royal Oak is actually part of the accomodation block of the police station built in 1904. The site of the Royal Oak is in the foregound beyond the drive. The building was demolished in the mid 1950's. By 1928 it was numbered number 5 Milton Road and was a tea room in the name of Mrs Staniforth. **
