Ship, 104 Peach Street, Wokingham, Berkshire

At King Street in 1852 and before

Wokingham pub history index

The oldest part of the present Ship is the 17th entry timber framed building at the corner of Peach Street and Wiltshire Road. It has been much altered; the original outer walls having been replaced with brick while many of the internal walls have been removed.  By 2011, some of the original beams can still be seen in the bar, together with a number of replicas, steel girders covered with wood, where walls have been removed. The western part of the building was a blacksmith’ s shop while part of the building and part of the car park occupy the site of three of the l5th century Westende almshouses. *
