According to personal research, Samuel Crouch was at the Greyhound between
the years of 1780 and 1814. Prior to this John Crouch was at the public
house, with the sign of the Dog between the years of 1753 and 1780. *

Will May 22, 1780 "In the name of God Amen I John Crouch the Eldor of
Beaconsfield in the County of Bucks __________ being very sick and weak in
body but of sound and disposing mind memory and understanding (Praised by
Almighty God for the same) do make publish and declare this my last Will and
Testament in manner and form following (that is to say) First I give devise
and bequeth unto my Dear Wife Ann Crouch all that my _________ Tenement or
Publick House with those appurtenances wherein I now dwell situate standing
and being in Beaconsfield aforesaid in the County of Bucks in a certain
street or end thoro called Windsor End and which said Publick House is
called or known by the name Sign of the Dog and also the sum of all and
every my Household Goods Furniture Chattels and Personal Estate and every
thereof To hold my said _________or Tenement and Premises Household Goods
Furniture Chattel and Personal Estate unto her my said Wife and her Assigns
for and during the term of her natural Life and from and immediately after
her decease Then I give and devise my said _________ or Tenement and
Premises Household Goods Furniture Chattels and Personal Estate unto my son
Samuel Crouch To hold to him his __________ Executors Administrators and
Assigns for ever... *
John Crouch is listed as paying taxes as a Licensed Victualler (Alehouse
Keepers) from Start of Taxing in 1753 until 1780, upon which date his widow
paid. After 1783, Hannah Crouch paid one year, after which there were no
more records. Either the tax was stopped or further tax records were lost
since we know that son Samuel continued running the pub until his (Samumuel's)
death in 1814 (July 14th). *

24 May 1812/ WILL of Samuel Crouch dated 24 May 1812, Beaconsfield,
Victualler Wife Ann, daughter of Thomas Honnor (Tailor) was left garden and
premises called by the Sign of the Greyhound situated on the East side of
Street or End called Windsor End, Beaconsfield and two cottages being on the
West Side of Windsor End and now in occupation of Mr. George Harlmall,
Excise Officer all of which said premises now in his occupation and
purchased of Mr. John Jackson etc and daughter Mary. (Above Will found in
Volume 131, Page 17) *
