BLETCHLEY is a parish, in the hundred and union of Newport Pagnell, situate
47 miles from London, 1 1/2 W. of Fenny Stratford, on the main line of the
London and North Western Railway, which sends off at this place a branch to
Bedford, also One to Oxford, through Winslow, from which latter town another
branch communicatcs with Buckingham and Banbury. The church is a handsome
structure, dedicated to St. Mary. In the interior is a fine tomb, containing
the remains of the Earl of Wilton; there is also an interesting brass to Dr.
Sparke. The living is a rectory, annual value about £400, in the gift of
John Fenning, Esq., of Stoneham Park, Hampshire; the Rev. William Bennitt,
rector. There is a National School for boys and girls. The parish, including
the hamlet of Water Eaton, contained in 1861 a population of 1658; acreage
3150. Sir Philip Duncombe Pauncefort Duncombe is lord of the manor.
