CUDDINGTON is a parish and large village, in the hundred and union of
Aylesbury, from which place it is 5 1/2 miles S.W. distant, and 5 1/2 N.E.
of Thame. The church, an ancient edifice in the early English style of
architecture, consists of nave, chancel, three aisles, and a square
embattled tower, containing five bells and a clock. The living, until the
last few years, was annexed to the vicarage of Haddenham, but is now a
perpetual curacy, in the incumbency of the Rev. James Mansell Price. The
Wesleyans and Baptists have each a chapel here. There is a National School,
erected in 1845; the site upon which it is built was part of the glebe, and
was given with the consent of the patrons, the Dean and Chapter of
Rochester, by the Rev. John Willis, the late rector. There is a charity
consisting of a plot of land, 6 acres in extent, producing about £20 per
annum, clear of rates and tithes, bequeathed to the parochial poor by
Nathaniel Almond, Esq., of Thame who died in 1643. The church contains a
tablet to his memory. One half of this charity is appropriated to
apprenticing poor boys, and the other half is given to the poor. The
	population in 1861 was 590; acreage, 1260.
