Before William Oakley the publican was James Henry Coles. *
William Oakley had been the publican at a number of pubs before he took over
the licence at the Clayton Arms on 22nd Jul 1909, so the Oakley's ran the
Clayton Arms for at least 30 years. William was at the
Blue Boar, Hemel
Hempstead, Hertfordshire in the 1901 census. *
My source for the licence transfer in 1909 is the South Bucks Standard of
Friday 23 July 1909 which reported a number of such local transfers. *

Jack Oakley took over the Licence at Clayton Arms from his mother, Mary,
after her death on 11th Feb 1934. According to the 1939 register he was
still the publican then. Mary had been the licensee since the death of her
husband William (Jack's father) in March 1926. *
