My 2x great grandfather Richard William WHIFFIN was the Licensee of the
Little Red Lion, St Mary Street, High Wycombe at the time of the 1871 census
until his death in 1876. *

It appears that Richard's son, Charles WHIFFIN took over the running of the
pub following the death of his father. His occupation was given as Publican,
St Mary’s Street at the time of two of his daughter’s baptisms in 1878 and
1880. The 1881 and 1891 census and Kelly’s Directory 1883 also confirm this.

TRANSFERS.-A transfer of the license of the “Little Red Lion” was granted
from Charles WHIFFIN to Henry ECKLIN.
Charles WHIFFIN (second son/seventh child of William Richard and Anne
WHIFFIN) married Sarah Ann ABBOTT, (fifth daughter/tenth child of William &
Maria ABBOTT), in 1873. Their siblings, Elizabeth “Lizzie” WHIFFIN (fourth
daughter/sixth child) married Joseph ABBOTT (fifth son/ninth child) in 1877.
Joseph and Lizzie are my great grandparents.
