The address was given in 1851 as Wheeler Street; and as the New Black Bear in 1852, and at 4 Wheeler Street in 1869. The Bear Inn, established by 1643 was probably an early incarnation of this pub, which had become known as the Black Bear by at least 1773. It is now long-closed and demolished.  **
