Torpoint exixted from at least 1734, with a regular ferry service across the Tamar to the dockyards at Plymouth in 1791. The earlier census for Torpoint also include Anthony. H.M.S Raleigh was commissioned in February 1940. During 1941 air raids destroyed 116 out of 918 houses, and over 700 were damaged.
