1901 George Snow had a house built in Dulverton, Exmoor (6 miles from Knowstone) the house is still there. The family would arrive from London by train having sent servants down earlier to open up the house. George’s brothers and their families would also visit. They never forgot their roots.

The Snows came for the country pursuits which were very popular / fashionable at that time. It was normal for hunting visitors to come for an extended period (perhaps most of the hunting season) and in effect transfer the house and it’s servants for the duration. Good rail-links from Dulverton meant that George Snow could get back up to London by train during the week for business. In the 1911 census George Snow, the servants and most of his family were resident on Exmoor having left a son in the London house without servants.
