Greyhound Inn, 18 Millbay Road, Plymouth PL1 3LH

Millbay Road - at 19 Millbay Road only in 1881.

The Greyhound became the Sippers in 1983, and was for some years a Whitbread Pub and now an Enterprise Inns leased pub. Millbay Road now only has 2 pubs, Sippers at 18 and The Mount Pleasant at 13. There are also 2 big hotels, both of which have small bars, the New Continental and the Duke of Cornwall.
We are literally 50 yards from the entrance to Millbay Docks, which at one time was very active and has an interesting history. In 1936, over 400 liners docked in Millbay, the busiest ever year there. The surviving crews (not passengers) of the Titanic landed there and were taken straight away by train to London to answer questions in the enquiry of the sinking. Now only one or two liners a year stop here. Millbay Docks now only houses Brittany Ferries to Roscoff in France and Santander on the north coast of Spain. This being said, we will be busy in the period 8 to 20th September, 2011 as Millbay Docks will be hosting the world series for the America's Cup!! *
