Up until 1982, the Printers Elbow II in Higher Union Street used to be ‘The Globe’. The Printers Elbow (formerly the Foresters Arms), before demolition was so popular that when it was pulled down to make way for the Fleet Walk shopping development; landlord Eddie Thomas moved to higher Union Street at Torre and took over The Globe which he renamed The Printers Elbow 2.
It had been by this title since 1833 when it converted from a private house. It was a coaching house and the last stop in Torquay for Royal Mail coaches on their way to Exmouth and London.
