Dog and Partridge, High Street, Billericay

Billericay pub history index

A listing of historical public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in Essex.

A beerhouse established shortly after the Beer Act of 1830, and occupied the site halfway across where the Railway Bridge is now; and for many years the terminus for excursions from Southend.
With the coming of the Railway, the Dog and Partridge needed to be demolished, probably about 1885 to make way for the 54 feet deep railway cutting, and was replaced by the the Railway Hotel.
On the 1st January 1889, the first passenger train ran to Billericay, and the Railway Hotel is still in existence at one end of the bridge.
