Alehouse Recognizances held by the Essex Record Office list Licensees of the Hare & Hounds. The Owner in 1765 was Henry Lane. The Licensee from 1765 to its closure in 1769 was "Westham Cokeham" or "Cocum Weston".
The licensee in 1769 was recorded on the Alehouse Recognizances as Weston Cokeham, at the Hare and Hounds.

The Hare and Hounds, High street, is mentioned in the Survey of Billericay in 1765. It was situated mear the White Lyon (now Shelleys in 1962). It is also mentioned in the alehouse recognizances returns for 1769, but not at any later dates.
This is the Ask restaurant in 2025 with a commemorative plaque outside - “This house was the original meeting place of the Billericay independent protestant dissenters who were licensed to worship here on 28th April 1672 with liberty of conscience”.
