Alehouse Recognizances held by the Essex Record Office list Licensees at the Kings Arms, Billericay:- Customary tenants:- 1615, Thomas Jollye Clarke; 1706, House of Curtis; 1738, Richard Falkner; 1765, Mary Falkner. The Kings Arms, High street, is first mentioned in the Survey of Billericay in 1615, when Thomas Jollye Clarke took over the property forrmerly known as the Crown. It is mentioned in 1706, House of Curtis; in 1738, Richard Falkner; and in 1765, Mary Falkner., but not listed in alehouse recognizances of 1769. It occupied the site which later was that of Laylands china and glassware, ironmongery, cycle shops etc.
