White Lyon, High street, Billericay

The White Lyon, High street opened in the 16th century, with the earliest mention of 1685, occupying what is now Shelleys, a building slightly older than the Inn itself, with an archway leading through to the stables and outbuildings. It was noted for its Cherry Orchards attached to it. The last licensee of the White Lyon was Francis Smith, who was there from 1783 to its closure in 1809. After the White Lyon, he was licensee of the Red Lion.
