Coach & Horses, 36 Chapel Street, Billericay CM12 9LU

Billericay pub history index

A listing of historical public houses, Taverns, Inns, Beer Houses and Hotels in Essex.

This is the same pub as the Crown Tap, which is also listed separately under Billericay. I have seen two theories of the Crown Taps origin, one suggesting that it was established in 1817, the other that it was present in the 18th century. It appears to have been so-named because it stood to the rear of the original Crown beerhouse.
Shown on the 1831 Greenwoods Billericay map .
It was renamed the Coach & Horses in the 1860s and rebuilt in its present form around 1928-1935. ***
