Bell, Old Heath, Colchester 1884

The Bell in 1884

The picture shown is dated 1884 and shows work being carried out to repair damage caused by the earthquake in that year. It also shows three different advertising boards, those of Daniells, Nicholls and Barclay Perkins, reflecting the fact that it was then a freehouse owned by Grimston. The pub sign gives the name 'Aldous,' which fits perfectly with the census record.
