FAMBRIDGE (NORTH) is a small parish of scattered houses, on the north side of the river Crouch, opposite South Fambridge, to which it has a ferry.It is nearly 7 miles S. of Maldon, and 5 miles N. by W. of Rochford, and contains 142 souls, and 1260a. of land, of which 300 acres are marsh, penetrated by two short creeks of the Crouch.

Wm. Gale, Esq., who resides at the Hall, is lord of the manor, but part of the parish belongs to W. P. Johnson, Esq., Mrs. Heale, W. Parker, and a few smaller owners.The account of the owners of the Manor is very imperfect till 1328, and since then it has been held by the Burgh, Mortimer, Langley, Bourchier, and many other families. 

The Church (Holy Trinity) is a small ancient fabric, with a bell hung on the roof.In the chancel is a brass, dated 1590, in memory of Wm. Osborne and his wife and children.

The rectory, valued in K. B. at £4. 13s. 4d., and in 1831 at £333, is in the patronage of the Lord Chancellor, and incumbency of the Rev. Thomas Benson, B. A., who has 25a. 3p. of glebe, and a neat residence, built in 1831, of white brick.

FAMBRIDGE (NORTH), a parish in Maldon district, Essex; on the river Crouch, at a ferry to South Fambridge, 6½ miles S of Maldon r. station. Post-town, Latchingdon, under Maldon. Acres, 1,248. Real property, £1,577. Pop., 191. Houses, 34. The name Fambridge is thought to be a corruption of Foambridge and to have been derived from a bridge which anciently stood here, and raised foam in the current. The property is much subdivided. The living is a rectory in the disocese of Rochester. Value, £283. Patron, the Lord Chancellor. The church is old but good.

FAMBRIDGE (SOUTH), a parish in Rochford district, Essex; on the river Crouch, opposite North Fambridge, 3½ miles NNW of Rochford, and 6¾ N by W of Southend r. station. Acres, 1,234. Real property, £1,484. Pop., 104. Houses, 12. The property is divided among a few. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Rochester. Value, £428. Patron, E. Stephenson, Esq. The church is tolerable.
