The off-licence was at the corner of Baxton and Masterman roads on the Greatfields estate.

New application for a beer, wine and spirits off-licence at the corner of Baxton and Masterman roads, East Ham on behalf of Sarah Ellen Gentry, widow.
The house was on the Greatfields estate and was the only one on which a licences could be held. THere were 1,230 houses built, all of which were largely occupied by people of the artisan class needing small quantities, and the Mitcham stores nearby had long queues waiting to be served.
Mrs Gentry was a tenant of Messrs Mann, Crossman and Co at 40 pounds a year.
