Spent a time named Peers. The Travellers Joy pub, at the junction of London Road and Downhall Road, once housed a prison, known as Gallows Mead or Hangman’s Field.
The pub was constructed in 1957, and it stands where the prison originally was, before its demolishment and transformation.
