At Worship street Police Office, on Wednesday, two men, named Wilson and Rumsey were examined on various charges of swindling and passing forged notes. A charge was that they defrauded Mr Cannon of the Black Swan, at Roydon in this county of £30, by means of bad notes and a cheque without a drawers name to it. They were committed.

William Monk, a labourer was charged with obtaining a quart of beer, a bottle of ginger beer, and two pennyworth of gin by false pretences, on 29May - Thomas Robertson, landlord of the Black Swan, at Roydon said the defendant called for the liquids, but when asked to pay he said he had no money, and he did not intend to pay. Fined 10 shillings.

Long serving landlady Edna Morgan, mine host at the same public house for 32 years, is the toast of the brewery.
Sh topok a day off from her Black Swan at Broadley Common to be she star quest at a celebration lunch where seniot executives raised their glasses to her.
The lunch was held by Benskins at its Watford Head office, where Mrs Morgan was presented with a silver photograph frame and a boucquet of flowers.

They set off at 4am and reached their finishing point 12 hours and 15 minutes later, walking via Ongar and Brentwood.
