Actually my Great Grandmother's correct name was Sarah Alice (Turner) Stanley but for some reason she was
known as Alice. This proved a difficulty when I was researching as both she
and Arthur Stanley who came from Lindsell, near Dunmow in Essex moved to
Islington for work and this is where they married, my Grandmother being born
in London. As noted, by 1891 they had moved to Shenfield. I believe a widowed Stanley brother was also living at the Rose with some of his family at the same time.
They remained in Shenfield for the rest of their lives, Sarah dying in 1937 and Arthur in 1944. Sarah's death was reported in the local paper. *
