Information on Albert Moses Miller (brother of my great-grandfather). He was born at Hurstpierpoint in Sussex in 1867 and was a constable in the Metropolitan Police until retiring on 31 March 1918.
He and his wife Charlotte then moved to Thaxted where he became the landlord of the Rose & Crown Inn. Definitely known to be at the Rose & Crown when Charlotte died there on 4 April 1919. Albert then had a housekeeper Matilda (Millie) Barry who he married at Thaxted on 8 April 1920. Albert continued to be the landlord of the Rose & Crown until he became ill with cancer and they moved to Crowborough in Sussex where after a few weeks Albert died on 6 May 1926 aged 58.
So Albert was probably landlord from 1918 to 1926, but definitely from 1919 to 1925 . ***

In 1921 at the Rose and Crown, Thaxted, Essex
Albert Moses Miller, Publican aged 53 years 9 months and born in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex
