My ancestors kept the Prince of Wales for many Years. William Bowtell was
born in 1864 in Little Dunmow. Prior to taking over the pub he was a fish
Merchant, and I believe that he continued the trade even after taking on the
pub. Maria Bowtell was born in 1867 in Little Dunmow.

Maria Bowtell passed the pub to her Daughter Elizabeth Porter (Nee Bowtell)
and her husband Charles who kept it until the mid 1980s when it was sold and
became the Newney Inn for a couple of years then was renamed The Duck Inn
which is now run by Shepherd and Neame **
