The Valley Inn, Chalford, Stroud - Minnie Spencer and daughters circa 1920
Residents at this address.
I have discovered that my great grandmother ran the Clothiers Arms, Chalford
between 1919 and 1926 (from electoral registers).
Minnie had been widowed in 1916 but was the daughter of a Stony Stratford
publican, so she knew the business.
Minnie also ran the Valley Inn. Apparently the Clothiers Arms was renamed
the Valley Inn on 11 Feb 1916 ; it is odd that it was still called the
Clothiers in electoral lists through 1926. *
See above photographs of her daughters (one of whom is my grand mother)
posing with 4 men and of Minnie herself under the Valley Inn sign. *
