1830/Thomas Hill/Ram, Minchinhampton/../../Pigots Directory *

Thomas died in 1841 and left the inn business to 'my dear wife Sarah in case she shall so long continue my Widow but not otherwise' If she remarried the business went back to the Executors 'unless my son Solomon should wish to carry on the business of Innkeeping'. As we know, Sarah did keep the business which subsequently went to Solomon and thereafter to his son Isaac.
Like Thomas (stated in his Will as being Innkeeper and Brazier), both Solomon and Isaac were also Tinmen and Braziers working out of The Ram, with Isaac keeping up to date and becoming a Gas Fitter by the time of the 1871 census.
The Baxter Hill shown as daughter-in-law in the 1851 census is likely to be a mishearing of the name Hester or Esther, both versions showing in later censuses, but this Solomon almost certainly married Esther Dutton in Minchinhampton in 1836. *
