My Great Grandfather - Albert Wright – born 1855 in Shortwood, Horsley,
Gloucestershire, England is listed as the Licensee of the Rising Sun Hotel,
Shortwood in 1885. I don’t know for how long he maintained that position
however I do know that his first child Beatrice Elsie (Elsie) Wright was
born in the Rising Sun on 1/2/1885.
Edward Wright is Albert’s Father (my Great, Great Grandfather) and he is
listed as also being the publican of the Rising Sun Hotel. I suspect both
Edward and Albert jointly worked the hotel. Edward was born in August 1817
in Bisley-with-Lypsott, Gloucestershire, England. At the time of his death
in September 1899 he was recorded at the Licensee of the Rising Sun.
It appears Edward Wright was the publican from sometime before 1881 until
his death in 1899. Sometime before 1885 Albert Wright became the publican
and worked the hotel with his father for a period of time. *
