Gloucester Citizen. 26 October 1991 - Pubs to go in brewery sale.
Brewery chiefs are to sell off eight pubs in the Forest of Dean at an auction next week - half of them are in the same town.
Four of the pubs, the Golden Lion, the Royal Foresters, the Bridge Inn and the Rising Sun are in or near Cinderford.
The other four are the Yew Tree, Blakeney, the Bailey Inn, Yorkley, the Ship Inn, Newnham on Severn and the White Horse, Soudley.
The latter is the target of the ambitious Soudley project, which is hoping to buy the pub and add a shop and Post Office to the building.
Prices for all the pubs, all being sold by Whitbread range from £85,000 to more than £140,000.
The companys senior estates manager Chris Ford said as would-be buyers should be aware of how difficult it was to run a pub successfully.
"They need to have a minimum of £20,000 capital to invest and should be prpared to work very hard", he said.
The auction will be held at the Feathers Hotel in Lydney.
