Bell Inn, West street, Hambledon, Hampshire

Hambledon pub history index

The pub was still standing in 1930, but seems to have been demolished soon after that. I lived in Bell Cottages, which was named after the pub and was part of The Bell In Yard.  I also have a recording of my Grandmother telling her memories of the pub, and I would be pleased to pass that on, if you would have a space for audio. *

I was searching the web for information about, and photo's of, The Bell Inn pub which used to exist in Hambledon during the late 1890's. I can confirm that the pub actually stood in West Street, Hambledon and sat back from the road next to Bell Cottages, which is where I was born. I remember my grandmother telling me that Bell Cottages where named after the pub and formed part of The Bell Inn yard, which also included a brewery and other cottages. I have a recording of my grandmother describing The Bell Inn yard in great detail and have been trying to get hold of pictures of it for years. I have attached a photo of Bell Cottages, taken roughly from the area where the pub stood and facing the road. *
