My Uncle Harry Sheath had both The Fox and The
Kingfisher pubs in Gunner Street,
Portsmouth up until they were demolished in 1970. *
He and his mother in law Rose Brewer were landlords. The Fox closed first
this was just a beer house and the Kingfisher (previously The Carpenters
Arms) had a spirits license and kept trading until a compulsory purchase
order from Port City Council decided to 'develop' the area. Rose Brewer's
sister had the Duke of Cornwall which was 5
minutes away in Lake Road Ports. Hope this helps. *
