My Great grandparents were either tenants or the managers of this pub back
in 1891 and my grandparents met and married here. The landlady of this pub
on the 1891 census is Elizabeth Airs, a widow of Henry Airs. Henry had run
The Sheer Hulk at 19 The Hard, but after his
death in 1886 his widow clearly moved.
The Airs family were tailors, but one by one they seemed to leave tailoring,
I assume because of the decline of that trade, and move into becoming
Licenced Victuallers. *
