I am not sure of John Scanlans residency, or as publican, but he was here after serving in India. His wife was in India with him and 3 daughters born out there. My grand father (James Walter Bowes) returned from the Boer War around 1889 to lodge at the Tap (so John and family were obviously there then) and obviously became 'involved' with one of the three daughters and made her pregnant, later to marry and have 10 other children! ***

My Great grandparents were either tenants or the managers of this pub back in 1891 and my grandparents met and married here. See above. ***
