The London Tavern, Poulner has been shortlisted as a finalist in the category of Stonegate Group Pub Partner Pub of the Year at the Great British Pub Awards 2022.
The London Tavern has been a part of the Poulner community since the 1860s and is now being run by Licensee Phil Hoyle. The pub has an amazing food and drinks offering along with great entertainment and good company, which is great for those popping in on their travels or those who visit the local pub regularly.
With summer in full swing, the pub has a beautiful, large beer garden that is perfect for sipping drinks under the sun and socialising with friends and family. However, summer is not here forever, and the colder months will be slowly creeping up on us, but fear not, The London Tavern has a huge log fire that is sure to warm you up and is perfect to gather around with some drinks. With the pubs wide array of drinks, you will be sure to find a tipple you will enjoy from options of refreshing beers, ciders and lagers, fine wines and brandy amongst other spirits.
To pair with your choice of drink, The London Tavern has a selection of delicious dishes served at lunchtime and evenings, made from locally sourced ingredients from local producers. There is something for everyone, with a seasonal changing menu, which currently includes dishes of Morrocan Lamb, wholetail scampi and a range of Tapas, perfect for sharing. Sunday Lunches are also available each Sunday with options of Beef, Lamb, Pork and a Nut Roast, served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and a range of vegetables, with lashings of gravy. The pub also serve kids roasts and have a kid’s menu available throughout the week.
The pub has lots going on to keep you and your guests entertained, with regular live music nights, which is loved by the pub team and all the guests. If music is not your thing, then why not put your knowledge to the test at one of the pubs regular quizzes. Alternatively, the pub has darts facilities, which is perfect for some friendly sporting competition. Phil and the team offer a welcoming service to all their guests and are continuing to grow The London Tavern and maintain its important position of being at the centre of the local community.
Phil said: “I am honoured that we have been shortlisted as one of Stonegate’s Pub of the Year, it is something we all cannot believe. The team and I work incredibly hard to make the pub as great as it can be, and I am so happy that all of our hard work has received recognition. The London Tavern is a huge part of Poulner’s community and without everyone’s support, we would not be where we are today. It is so lovely to see new and returning faces in the pub and it is lovely getting to know everyone.
“The Great British Pub Awards is such a big event for the pub industry, and it is an achievement in itself being nominated again within these prestigious awards.”
The awards recognise pubs, and their teams across the country for their amazing efforts and hard work undertaken to makes Britain’s pubs great for their communities. Two rounds of judging have already taken place to choose the finalists, and further judging will commence over the summer with pub visits taking place.
