This pub was built on the site of the old Andover Inn,
Wellington Road (the old name of Wolseley Road) which dates back to the 1850’s
when a one George Early was landlord, changing its name to the Anchor & Hope in
the 1870’s, it was rebuilt in the early 1900’s when it was owned by Barlow’s
Victoria Brewery, it became a Brickwood’s Brewery pub when they acquired
Barlow’s; becoming a Whitbread’s Brewery in 1971 when they purchased Brickwood’s
in 1971. It closed in 2011 and has since been converted into a Co-Op convenience
store. *
