Southampton pub history index
Dates back to 1830’s - Amos Rockett was first Landlord. Later
in 19th Century the pub was run by Charlotte Rockett. Charlotte’s husband John
ran a carrier business from the same address.
Both were still at the address in 1900.
Rockett’s carrier business transferred to nearby Pound Street in 1921 when the
old Ritz Cinema was built on its site. The building with the carriage outside is
the Angel Inn. Sainsbury’s Supermarket now stands on the site this old beer
