Dates back to 1830�s - Amos Rockett was first Landlord. Later in 19th Century the pub was run by Charlotte Rockett. Charlotte�s husband John ran a carrier business from the same address.
Both were still at the address in 1900.
Rockett�s carrier business transferred to nearby Pound Street in 1921 when the old Ritz Cinema was built on its site. The building with the carriage outside is the Angel Inn. Sainsbury�s Supermarket now stands on the site this old beer house. *
