Breweries: Scrase’s Star Brewery, Strong’s Romsey Brewery, Whitbread’s Brewery *
A Scrase’s Star Brewery pub of the same name has stood on this site since the early 1870’s when a Richard Walters was Landlord, The present building was built by Strong’s Romsey Brewery in 1930 not long after they had taken over the old building, in 1969 it became a Whitbread’s Brewery pub after the acquired Strong’s Romsey Brewery, The pub closed in 2010 and suffered the same fate as its near neighbour The Gate, being demolished by Southampton University to enlarge its Car Park, as a goodwill gesture they mounted its foundation stone on a plinth in a small garden in the car park . *
