The address is 2 Deal street by 1907. This fully licensed pub has had several addresses since 1878, 1903 saw its address as 2 Dock Street, then 2 Deal Street. In 1912/13 William Patterson was landlord finally ending up as 2 Endle Street, in the early 1900’s it was owned by Ashby’s Eling Brewery before being taken over by Strong’s Romsey Brewery, as can be seen in the photo they rebuilt it in their trade mark mock Tudor style in the 1930’s. It was compulsory purchased by the local authority on 29th June 1961, however it survived the redevelopment scheme and was used as the regional office for the General, Municipal, Boilermakers, and Allied Trades Union, which is quite ironic as the regional offices of the Transport and General Workers Union in London Road became a pub called the Varsity, the building is once again empty awaiting new tenants. *
