James Stratton was the first landlord of this Cooper’s Brewery pub then called Freemantle Hotel, the original building was destroyed in an air raid in November 1940, a temporary building was erected in 1941 and this replacement building opened in 1956 under Watney’s Brewery ownership, it is now a free house. *
