Southampton pub history index
This pub dates back to the 16th century when it was called the Queen’s Arms, in 1878 it was recorded as being fully licensed. It belonged to the Winchester Brewery in the early 1900’s, and was one of a number of old pubs that ran up the western side of the High Street. Like all of the lower end of the High Street it was destroyed in an air raid in 1940, and the site at present has not been built on as the medieval vaults are on display. *
February 1917 saw landlord George Payne was fined £20 for selling intoxicating liquor outside permitted hours. *
