This truly back street pub started life as a beer house 1859, a James White was the landlord, belonging to Alderidge’s Bedford Brewery before transferring to Brickwood’s Brewery in the early 1900’s.This small pub was granted a full licence on 8th March 1960, it closed 24th March 1970, being demolished with the rest of the properties in the road to make way for a car park, to meet the needs of Shirley. It was in Oxford Street, before being renamed Marlborough Road, to avoid confusion with the Oxford Street in the City Centre.*
