Dating back to the 1850’s when a one Joseph Harbutt was the landlord it is listed in the 1878 drink map as being fully licensed. It was originally called the Vine at Portswood, in the early 1900’s it was the property of Mew Langton’s Newport Brewery, before becoming the property of the Winchester Brewery in March 1910, and later becoming a Marston’s House. It was originally listed as being situated on the corner of Portswood Road and Field Place, It closed in the late 1990’s, was demolished and replaced by housing. *
