Battleaxes, Aldenham Wood, Aldenham, Hertfordshire

Aldenham index

This pub was established as the Wrestlers (referred to as the Two Wrestlers in 1809, and in the 1871 census description). It was demolished in around 1890 when the old Elstree Road and Grubs Lane were realigned as Aldenham Road and Butterfly Lane. A replacement pub was built nearby at the new crossroads and was called the Battle Axes. **
