The Ordnance Arms
closed when it was destroyed by the V2 rocket on 7th March 1945, and the
licensee at that time was Mrs. Vera May (who subsequently took over the
license of the King William IV in Hoddesdon, Herts.) Apparently my father
was one of the first people to get through to the Ordnance Arms after the
blast, and was instrumental in extracting Mrs. May from the rubble. ***
