The gent standing in the foreground with the moustache is Joseph John Coles, the manager from about 1904 to 1920. The woman sitting down to his right is his wife Lucy who was a sister of my great-grandfather, Albert Durbin. The two young girls in the group may be her grandchildren. Before he became manager of the Waggon and Horses, Joseph was in the Metropolitan police for 25 years. He retired in 1903. His final posting, as a police sergeant, was at South Mimms, Hertfordhire which is very near Ridge Hill. ***
